Please take a moment to read the language of our petition. If you find it acceptable, please contact us so that we can bring the petition to you at a mutually convenient time for your signature.
Please bear in mind that we will want to turn in a completed petition no later than Wednesday, 12/02/09.
PETITION LANGUAGE:
We the undersigned residents and/or property owners hereby strenuously object to the request by MetroPCS and/or Kalamazoo Country Club for a zoning variance that would permit MetroPCS to erect a cell phone tower on the property of Kalamazoo Country Club.
We object to the proposed tower for the following reasons:
Adverse Aesthetic Impact - Many homeowners and residents would be able to view the proposed 170 foot tower from our residences. The tower may be subject to FAA lighting requirements, including an aircraft warning beacon. Further, the total height of the MetroPCS design accommodates five additional antennae-arrays (3 more than required by the Zoning Ordinance.) While this offers significant profit potential for tower owners and landlords, it poses a very real possibility that the tower will become a significant eyesore.
Adverse Property Value Impact - The presence of this cell tower will affect real and perceived property values. This impact is greater in residential districts, where cell towers are prohibited, than in Manufacturing or Commercial districts, where they are permitted.
Adverse Health Impact - While some studies indicate that levels of radiation in the vicinity of cell towers are safe, there is not enough long-term data to substantiate this position. Many of us are concerned about the potential impact to ourselves, our children, and our families as a result of living in close proximity to a potent source of radio energy.
Accordingly, we the undersigned residents, property-owners, & tax payers respectfully ask the following of the Zoning Board of Appeals:
1. Continue to uphold the just and well-established purpose and intent of the Zoning Ordnance
2. Continue to protect the property value, health, and welfare of our neighborhood and its residents
3. Observe that granting the tower request has significant adverse impact upon our neighborhood, but, denying it does not impose a hardship upon those who are making the request.
4. Deny the request for variance as sought by MetroPCS and the Kalamazoo Country Club during the November 12 meeting of the ZBA.
Please bear in mind that we will want to turn in a completed petition no later than Wednesday, 12/02/09.

Be sure to include your name and address in the letter. Of equal importance, be sure to tell them that you are opposed to the tower. Please include a respectfully worded request asking the members of the board to deny the application for variance.
Remember, you don't have to write like a lawyer; just write like a concerned citizen.
